A Mid-Year Education Conversation with Dr. Connie Davidson and Ms. Shontelle Jackson on Vibe Coding and the Classroom
Halfway Into the School Year, a New Question Has Arrived
By late October the school year has found its rhythm. The first-week nerves have settled, routines are in place, and teachers, parents and students have a much clearer picture of how the year is really going. At the same time, a new idea has been moving quickly through the technology world: vibe coding, where you describe what you want in plain language and AI builds working software for you. This week Tony brings two familiar education voices back to the show to ask what that means for the people who teach.

Who Are Dr. Connie Davidson and Ms. Shontelle Jackson
Dr. Connie Davidson is an educator and children’s author whose work spans the classroom, teacher certification, and the stories that help young learners find their footing. She joined Tony this summer for both parts of the back-to-school education panel.
Ms. Shontelle Jackson is a familiar and valued voice on CWTM education panels, with a steady focus on the learners who are too often left out of the conversation. Together they bring the classroom view to a question that is usually asked by technologists.
Why This Conversation, and Why Now
Over recent weeks Tony has been exploring what happens when people who are not developers start building their own software, from apps made to fit a community to drawing tools created by an artist. The natural next question is the one on this week’s card: is vibe coding for educators?
Teachers already build things all the time: lesson plans, worksheets, quizzes, classroom routines. If AI makes it possible to turn an idea into a small working tool, that could save time and open new doors. It also raises real questions about student learning, fairness, privacy, and where the time to learn something new would come from in the middle of a busy school year.
What We Expect to Explore
The Mid-Year Check-In
- How the school year is really going for teachers, students and families
- What is working, and what needs adjusting before the second half
- Where the pressure points sit for educators right now
What Vibe Coding Actually Is
- A plain-language explanation of building software by describing it to AI
- What it can realistically produce, and what it cannot
- Why it is getting so much attention outside the tech world
A Place in the Classroom?
- Small tools an educator might build for their own classroom
- Whether students should be learning this, and at what age
- How it could help, or leave behind, the learners who need the most support
Questions Worth Asking First
- Student privacy, and the data a homemade tool should never touch
- Where the time to learn it would actually come from
- How schools might think about guidance before it spreads on its own
Who This Conversation Is For
If you teach, support a classroom, lead a school, or are a parent wondering how AI is turning up in your child’s education, this one is for you. It is also for anyone who caught the recent conversations about building your own apps and wondered how that idea lands in a school.
You do not need any technical background to follow along. Bring your questions about the school year and about AI in education, and put them to Tony, Dr. Davidson and Ms. Jackson in the live chat.
